Great Hall of the People
(West side of Tiananmen Square)
Site of the National People's Congress, the massive Great Hall of the People is open to visitors. The Hall features 32 reception rooms decorated in the theme of China's various provinces. International concerts and performances are held here from time to time.

Lao She Teahouse

Lao She Teahouse is famous for staging Beijing opera. Based on folktales and famous Chinese novels, Beijing opera is known for its elaborate costumes, dazzling martial arts, musical dialogues, and most importantly, its facial pattern for different characters. Characters are classified into three basic roles: the male roles are called "sheng," female roles "dan," and clowns "chou." The nature of each character is distinguished by different colors and various facial patterns.

A Tibetan Buddhist temple located in the center of Beijing, which is best known for its 60 ft Maitreya Buddha, carved out of one huge sandalwood tree.

Located east of Tiananmen Square with a massive collection of over 60,000 relics, documents, and pictures.

Tiananmen Square
Located directly south of the Forbidden City, it is the largest public square in the world. It is the famous site where Chairman Mao proclaimed the founding of the Chinese Republic in 1949.
